Jonathan Stewart, an accomplished industrial designed, recently had the idea that telemedical consultations would really benefit from some hardware. These days people that interact with their physicians via Skype or some other video teleconferencing system are typically only able to report on how they feel, but getting a simple exam still requires the patient to make an office visit.

Jonathan has come up with the Portal, a concept for a device that would allow remote physicians to analyze their patients similar to how it would happen during an actual visit. The patient would wear the Portal headset that would take temperature readings, measure the heart rate and respiration rate, as well as provide pulse oximetry. An integrated camera that can be moved from one eye to another would be used to examine the eyes, while a stethoscope in the form of a puck would be used by the patient or family member to let the physician auscultate right at the desktop.
